Labour Court rejects union claim for Teagasc on-call allowance

The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for an on-call allowance at Teagasc. The recommendation was signed on 5 May 2015. The union sought an allowance for a worker who could be called in outside normal hours, in addition to overtime for attendance. The Court noted that the worker was free to refuse overtime and that management undertook to confirm this in writing and route future calls through the farm manager or a designated person. The Court made no finding on whether Teagasc should introduce an on-call allowance for this staff category.
