Labour Court recommends restoring five Tallaght Hospital workers’ Saturday overtime arrangements

The Labour Court recommended that Tallaght Hospital restore five part-time workers’ historic Saturday overtime arrangements from January 2014 while talks took place about a voluntary move to standard arrangements. The recommendation was signed on 27 April 2015. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the hospital had changed contractual overtime rates and caused financial loss. The hospital said it was aligning rates with established practice and the Public Service Agreement. The Court said the arrangements were out of line with those of comparable workers, while noting the five had enjoyed them for a prolonged period. It recommended standard arrangements for new employees and talks to incentivise the five workers to move voluntarily. Unresolved issues could return to the Court.
