Labour Court declines to recommend long-service award at Boxmore Plastics

The Labour Court did not recommend that Boxmore Plastics Ltd concede a claim for a 25-year long-service award. It said the award was complementary or ex gratia, not an employment entitlement, and that the practice had ceased in 2002. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said a worker should have received the customary gold watch and argued that the grievance procedure had not been followed. The Court said the procedure issue had already been dealt with in an earlier recommendation accepted by both sides and should be regarded as resolved. The recommendation was signed on 30 March 2015.
