Labour Court recommends Department letter resolve secretaries' examination-payment claim

The Labour Court recommended that the Department of Education and Skills' letter, as clarified, be accepted in resolution of the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union's claim for extra payments for school secretaries administering state examinations. The Court said the work was mainly done during normal working hours and that extra payments were cost-increasing and prohibited for covered schools under the Haddington Road Agreement. The Department said overtime or time off in lieu was available for additional hours, and those provisions applied to all secretaries covered by the claim. The recommendation was signed on 12 March 2015.
