The Labour Court recommended that a Matheson Solicitors worker undertake training for the firm’s Legal Personal Assistant Programme, with support and no threat of disciplinary sanction. The recommendation was dated 2 March 2015, following a dispute over testing and possible disciplinary consequences. The worker argued that the requirements and sanctions were excessive; Matheson Solicitors said the programme maintained software skills and that staff had support where needed. The Court accepted that the training was normal ongoing change that did not alter employment conditions, and recommended the worker cooperate unless an exemption applied. It said she should receive support and an opportunity to meet the standard before the next assessment in September 2015, with a resit opportunity through 31 December 2015.
