The Labour Court recommended that a worker at Matheson Solicitors receive support and training under its Legal Personal Assistant Programme, with no threat of disciplinary sanction. The recommendation was signed on 2 March 2015. The worker objected that the assessments were excessive and that failing them could lead to disciplinary action. Matheson said the programme was designed to keep staff proficient in software used in their jobs, and that most legal personal assistants had met the required standards. The Court found that keeping staff’s software skills up to date was normal workplace change and did not alter their employment conditions. It recommended that the worker cooperate with the training unless an exemption applied.
