Labour Court recommends uncapped redundancy terms at Robert Roberts

The Labour Court recommended that Robert Roberts Limited remove the cap on its voluntary redundancy offer after a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Mandate. The recommendation was signed on 28 January 2015. The unions argued that the profitable company could afford uncapped terms and that its offer did not adequately compensate long-serving staff. The company said the terms matched its standard package and that it had explored options to secure the long-term viability of its operations. The Court recommended bringing the severance terms into line with collectively bargained precedents. It said the offer of 5.25 weeks’ pay per year of service, inclusive of statutory redundancy, should have no cap. Participation remains voluntary for workers, and the company decides whether to accept each application.
