The Labour Court recommended that Limerick City & Co Council and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resume engagement to resolve workplace difficulties at Abbeyfeale Fire Station. The recommendation was signed on 9 January 2015. The union sought transfers for two members and an early retirement package for a third. Management said it could not meet the claim because of cost and other restrictions, and proposed engagement to restore professional respect and enable a return to work. The Court said both sides had accepted an independent report and were committed to its recommendation on restoring working relationships. It recommended written proposals, engagement with an expert facilitator and binding arbitration for any issues left unresolved.
