The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Dublin Bus’s cost-reduction proposal, subject to a one-off €1,250 payment for permanent operatives required to change rest nights under new rosters. The recommendation was dated 12 August 2014. The union had sought compensation, arguing that reducing the number of night operatives by 11 would increase the remaining workers’ workload. Dublin Bus said staff across grades had contributed to cost savings and its compensation packages followed company practice. After seven days of further engagement failed to produce agreement, the Court recommended the payment and that the union accept management’s offer in full and final settlement.
