Labour Court recommends talks on An Post worker’s seniority

By Eimear Byrne

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Labour Court recommended that An Post, the worker and the unions engage to establish the long-standing practice governing transfers between areas. The dispute concerned whether the worker retained her seniority after successfully applying for a post at An Post’s Naas office. The worker said she would not have applied if she had known the move would cost her seniority. An Post said a Monitoring Group had already decided that her seniority dated from her assignment to Naas. The Court found that the group had no authority to determine An Post’s transfer practice, and that the dispute had not yet been considered by management, the worker or the unions in the context of the applicable rules, agreements and rights. The recommendation was signed on 11 August 2014.
