The Labour Court recommended a two-year pay agreement between John Crane Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, with 2% increases from 1 January 2014 and 1 January 2015. It also recommended a €350 lump sum for each full-time employee with full service during the five-month gap between agreements, with pro-rata amounts for part-time and shorter-service employees. The recommendation was signed on 23 July 2014. The union opposed a pay pause and said the company’s proposed increase did not recognise workers’ service. The company said workers had received increases above the Consumer Price Index and that a modest increase would protect competitiveness.
