The Labour Court recommended that the Commissioners of Irish Lights not concede Unite’s claim for a pay adjustment, in a recommendation signed on 26 June 2014. Unite sought restoration of workers’ pay and conditions, saying their workload had increased and the employer had breached agreements and dispute procedures. The Commissioners said most staff had accepted work-practice changes and a pay adjustment, and argued the proposals were reasonable and necessary. The Court noted that unions representing 90% of employees had accepted the proposal and said the employer had no viable alternative but to apply it to all staff.
