The Labour Court recommended that BORD NA MONA not concede a claim by the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union and Unite for two weeks’ pay for 13 staff. The recommendation was signed on 26 June 2014. The workers had been removed from the payroll after refusing to use hand-held work recording devices. The unions said the company had changed working terms unilaterally and sought pay for the two weeks. BORD NA MONA said the workers had refused a legitimate instruction and failed to follow the grievance procedure. The Court found that the procedure required employees to follow supervisors’ instructions under protest while a grievance was being processed, and concluded the workers had not complied with it.
