The Labour Court recommended that Irish Water and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union review how pay is set for seconded Resident Engineers, in a recommendation signed on 6 May 2014. The union said Irish Water's €60,000 fixed salary breached an agreement that secondees retain their existing terms and conditions. It said Resident Engineers were typically paid €59,680 to €65,000 and that the rate ignored individual experience. Irish Water said €60,000 was appropriate for the Field Engineer role under local authority remuneration principles. The Court recommended applying the criterion used for engineers in analogous Resident Engineer roles. It asked the parties to exchange information on established practice and re-engage; if they cannot agree, they may refer the matter back for a definitive recommendation.
