The Labour Court recommended that Brothers of Charity grant sick pay in line with Department of Health circulars, treating a day’s absence as the employee’s rostered working day. The recommendation was signed on 28 March 2014. The dispute with the INMO concerned staff whose shifts exceeded the standard 7.8-hour day. The union argued sick leave could not be changed from days to hours. Brothers of Charity said its hours-based method was longstanding and fair to full-time and part-time staff.
