The Labour Court recommended different enhanced redundancy terms for education staff depending on whether they accepted a two-year ban on re-employment in the public sector. The recommendation was dated 27 March 2014. The dispute involved Deptartment of Education & Skills, represented by the Department of Public Expenditure, and IFUT, SIPTU, INTO, ASTI and TUI. The unions sought terms similar to those for special needs assistants, including no re-employment ban. The Department had offered to remove the ban at a lower redundancy rate. For employees accepting the ban, the Court recommended three weeks’ pay per year of service plus statutory redundancy. For those declining it, the recommendation was two weeks’ pay per year of service plus statutory redundancy.
