The Labour Court recommended that about 27 South Dublin County Council workers in its Public Realm Division retain a working-in-the-rain allowance on a personal-to-holder basis. The recommendation was signed on 5 March 2014. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued the allowance should continue under the Haddington Road Agreement and was pensionable. South Dublin County Council proposed ending it, saying rain work had become part of normal duties for a larger group and workers had protective clothing and equipment. The Court classified the allowance as Category 1 under local government guidelines and recommended that the workers retain it personally.
