The Labour Court found that Trinity College did not breach Clause 1.6 of the Public Service Agreement when it made a researcher compulsorily redundant. Its recommendation was signed on 25 November 2013. IFUT, the Irish Federation of University Teachers, said the College should have sought suitable alternative work for the researcher. Trinity College said its procedures allowed redundancies when research funding ended and no suitable redeployment or retraining was available. The Court noted that the research funding had ceased, the College had tried to find alternative work and it extended the researcher’s contract for two months while doing so. It also noted that an enhanced ex-gratia redundancy package was available. The Court concluded that the termination followed the College’s existing exit provisions under the agreement.
