The Labour Court recommended that Iss Ireland Limited pay affected workers compensation equal to twice their annual loss of earnings after proposed changes to their terms and conditions. The recommendation was signed on 25 November 2013. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the changes would reduce earnings and cause hardship for workers who worked long, unsocial hours. Iss Ireland Limited said it needed to cut costs to remain competitive. The Court recommended that the union cooperate with the changes. The compensation was to be paid in two phases: half on 1 January 2014, calculated on anticipated earnings loss, and the balance calculated by reference to actual losses during 2014. The second payment was due by the earlier of the second payday in January 2015 or a worker’s final payday if the contract was lost and staff transferred to a new employer or were made redundant.
