The Labour Court did not uphold the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for a higher on-call allowance for UPC Communications Ireland Limited Trading As UPC Limerick transmission engineers. The recommendation was signed on 14 November 2013. The union said the move from daytime cover to round-the-clock, seven-day cover reduced the effective hourly rate. The company said the €400 weekly allowance was competitive and was not an hourly rate. The Court noted that €400 per on-call week was the accepted rate for comparable one-in-four rosters and saw no reason to change it.
