The Labour Court recommended improved redundancy terms for six Rwe Npower workers made redundant when the Great Northern Brewery site in Dundalk closed. The recommendation was signed on 19 November 2013. Unite / Technical, Engineering & Electrical Union said the company had committed to mirror its client’s redundancy package. Rwe Npower said its offer depended on financial help from the client, which did not materialise. The Court said the earlier commitments distinguished the case. The Court recommended six weeks’ pay per year of service, removal of the 60-week ceiling, a wind-down payment and enhanced payments based on service: €4,000 for up to two years, rising to €20,500 for 15 or more years. It also recommended an education grant of up to €2,000 and that the workers accept the amended offer in full and final settlement.
