The Labour Court recommended that M&J Gleeson & Co recognise the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU) for collective bargaining and discuss redundancy terms, restoration of a pay cut, and employment terms and conditions. The recommendation was signed on 4 November 2013. SIPTU referred the dispute under section 20(1) of the Industrial Relations Act, 1969, and agreed to be bound by the recommendation. The company did not attend the hearing. The Court recommended that the parties meet to agree a framework for handling industrial relations matters and begin discussions without delay because redundancies were impending.
