The Labour Court recommended that Queally Pig Slaughtering Ltd increase its overall pay offer to 3%, following a pay claim by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union on behalf of the company's operatives. The recommendation was signed on 25 October 2013. The union sought 3% from 1 July 2012, citing a pay freeze dating to 2008 and workers' flexibility. The company said a shortage of pig meat and other cost challenges meant it could offer increases only from future dates. Its phased 2.5% offer was due to begin in January 2014. The Court recommended three 1% increases: retrospectively from 1 September 2013, from 1 January 2014 and from 1 January 2015, with the arrangement ending on 30 June 2015.
