The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Valero Energy Ireland Ltd.’s revised redundancy offer for a planned 20 compulsory redundancies among office staff. The recommendation was signed on 29 August 2013. The Court said statutory entitlements should be excluded when calculating the two-year cap on each employee’s lump sum. The union argued that compulsory redundancies warranted better terms than earlier voluntary departures. Valero Energy Ireland Ltd. said it was trading at a loss and its parent company would not contribute to the costs.
