Labour Court recommends pay protection for two redeployed Coillte workers

The Labour Court recommended that Coillte protect the earnings of two workers redeployed after the closure of its Dundrum sawmill, in line with a collective agreement. The recommendation was signed on 26 August 2013. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued that the 2012 agreement protected the workers’ terms and conditions and sought permanent protection of their earnings. Management said permanent protection was inappropriate and unsustainable, and that it would leave the workers on higher pay than colleagues in their new roles. The Court found that the agreement protected the workers’ earnings on a personal-to-holder basis.
