Labour Court recommends Tyndall Institute implement agreed pay rates for four workers

The Labour Court recommended that Tyndall Institute (University College Cork) implement agreed pay rates for four workers represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 1 August 2013. The union said the rates had been agreed after an independent review but not applied to the workers. Management acknowledged that it accepted the review outcome and agreed to phase it in, but argued implementation would breach public service pay restrictions. The Court found merit in the union’s claim, saying the workers sought application of agreed rates rather than a pay increase, and recommended that management implement the rates.
