The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Group of Workers’ claim, represented by the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union, for a higher call-in allowance for the Station Manager grade at the Irish Aviation Authority. In a recommendation signed on 1 July 2013, it instead urged discussions to expand the pool of staff providing on-call cover, including suitably trained Air Traffic Control Officers. The Court said the level of on-call cover required was excessive and that a pro rata increase to the allowance would not address the underlying issue. It recommended that discussions consider all options, including appointing additional staff, and be completed within 12 weeks.
