The Labour Court recommended that Bon Secours Health System consult SIPTU and affected staff before making similar changes to catering workers’ terms. The recommendation was signed on 21 June 2013. Management said the changes were needed to offset losses in catering services and that consultation or compensation was unnecessary for minor changes. The Court found that the change altered staff conditions, albeit to a minor extent, and said it should have been preceded by consultation through the union. The Court recommended adequate advance consultation on similar future changes and an assurance to SIPTU. It said the current dispute should then be regarded as resolved.
