The Labour Court recommended that BCD Travel increase severance for seven workers to two weeks’ pay per year of service on top of statutory redundancy. The recommendation, on the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim, was signed on 5 June 2013. The union sought improved terms, citing the workers’ long service and the company’s position in a profitable international group. BCD Travel said it had tried to retain the workers, that statutory redundancy was its norm and that it could not afford extra payments.
