Labour Court declines to recommend concession of union’s warning claim

The Labour Court did not recommend concession of the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim that a final written warning given to a worker at New Ireland Assurance PLC was excessive. The recommendation was signed on 30 April 2013. The warning followed the theft of a company laptop left under a car seat. The union argued that the worker had not intentionally breached the security policy. The Court noted that the warning had expired and could not be relied on in future.
