Labour Court recommends Shannon Development concede SIPTU and NUJ pay claims

The Labour Court recommended Shannon Development concede SIPTU and NUJ claims for pay linked to promotion and regrading, in a recommendation signed on 18 April 2013. The claims covered 12 members appointed to promotional posts, 13 whose posts were regraded, and four division managers seeking E1 grade recognition. The unions said members were doing higher-grade work but had not received the corresponding pay. Shannon Development said public-sector restrictions and financial measures prevented it from resolving the claims without government sanction. The Court said the claims concerned pay and benefits for grades workers already occupied, not new promotions or regrading. It recommended that the claims be conceded, citing the unique circumstances and saying the recommendation had no precedent value.
