Labour Court rejects union's pay claim and recommends it accept Wexford Creamery offer

The Labour Court recommended on 6 March 2013 that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Wexford Creamery Ltd’s conciliation offer in full and final settlement of its pay claim. The Court did not recommend conceding the union’s claim. The union sought a pay increase, arguing that workers had suffered losses from reduced pay and a freeze to the Defined Benefit Pension Scheme. The Court found that workers had accepted their current rates and a buy-out of the difference from their previous rates, without securing a commitment to raise the rates if the proposed general pay cut did not go ahead.
