The Labour Court recommended modified terms in a dispute between Glenpatrick Spring Water Co Ltd and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over redundancy and shift premiums. The recommendation was signed on 10 January 2013. The union sought enhanced redundancy terms, retention or compensation for the night shift premium and continuation of the agreed evening shift rate. The company said it could not improve redundancy terms beyond statutory entitlement and argued that lower shift premiums were needed amid business losses and restructuring. The Court recommended continued application of the 2008 evening shift rate to covered workers, senior operator rates for one third of operator positions after redundancies, and a ballot of union members on the amended package as a full and final settlement. New entrants’ evening shift rate was 5% for the first six months, with a review and an agreed 12.5% rate thereafter.
