The Labour Court recommended that O'Keeffe's of Kilkenny Limited, trading as Petmania, pay a dog groomer €2,500 after finding her dismissal procedurally unfair. The recommendation was signed on 9 January 2013. The employer cited customer complaints about work quality, animal mistreatment and behaviour. The worker said excessive bookings affected her work and alleged prolonged abuse and harassment by management. The Court found she had no chance to answer the complaints, contrary to the employer’s procedure and the disciplinary code. It said adequate grounds for dismissal may have existed, but the process was unfair. The worker’s failure to appeal was also considered in setting compensation.
