The Labour Court recommended that Carlow Arts Centre Ltd., trading as the Visual Centre for Contemporary Art and the George Bernard Shaw Theatre, pay a worker €7,500 in full and final settlement of her claim for additional hours. The recommendation was signed on 29 November 2012.
The theatre manager worked a 39-hour week and said she regularly worked beyond her contracted hours to meet the demands of the job. She kept records and submitted timesheets to management. Her union said 276 days of additional pay were due and that extra staffing support was not provided until 2011, as her contract was nearing its end.
The employer said overtime was not included in her contract and that she should manage her working time. It also said she had received two months’ time off in lieu and other payments before her contract ended.
