The Labour Court recommended that Texoil increase its redundancy offer to three weeks’ pay per year of service, plus statutory redundancy terms, capped at two years. The recommendation was signed on 19 November 2012. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought six weeks’ pay per year with no cap, as well as voluntary redundancy followed by last-in, first-out selection if needed. Texoil proposed selecting staff through a skills and attributes matrix as it restructured its workforce from 220 employees to 70. The Court recommended that the company and union discuss the selection matrix, including length of service among its criteria, and that training be provided where it would assist an employee in the restructured system.
