The Labour Court recommended that Mount Carmel Hospital increase its voluntary redundancy offer to one week’s pay per year of service, in addition to statutory redundancy, paid in two phases. The recommendation was dated 7 November 2012 and followed a dispute with the INMO, the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union, and the MLSA.

The unions sought three weeks’ pay per year of service on top of the statutory payment. The hospital had offered half a week’s pay per year, split between payments within six and 12 months of exit.

The Court noted the hospital received no public funding and was being run by NAMA amid severe financial difficulties. It recommended increasing the offer to one week per year while retaining the two-phase payment schedule.
