The Labour Court recommended that Shoe Zone pay workers made redundant from its Nutgrove store an additional week’s pay per year of service, on top of statutory redundancy. The recommendation was signed on 2 October 2012, after Mandate sought improved terms following the store’s closure in June. Mandate said Shoe Zone should match the terms offered after an earlier store closure. Shoe Zone said recession losses and a reduced Revenue rebate left it unable to afford the request. The Court recommended that Shoe Zone apply the same ex-gratia terms as before, with the lump sum paid within six weeks.
