The Labour Court recommended in favour of the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim against Dublin City Council/Dublin Fire Brigade over car allowances for three District Officers in the Fire Prevention Unit. The recommendation was dated 2 October 2012. The union sought to extend to the District Officers a July 2011 agreement covering Third Officers who use private cars for emergency call-outs. Management opposed the claim, citing the lack of an emergency on-call requirement and the risk of similar claims from other staff. The Court noted that the three District Officers had been included under the cited statutory provisions as officers required to attend emergencies.
