The Labour Court recommended that Glanbia reinstate its €3,000 goodwill payment for each employee at its Inch plant, in full and final settlement of a union claim for a wind-down payment. The recommendation was signed on 27 July 2012. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought €10,000 per employee for co-operation with the plant’s closure. Glanbia said agreed redundancy terms applied and that it had withdrawn an earlier goodwill offer after the union rejected it. The Court recommended reinstating that offer. The plant was due to close in September 2012, with more than 50 jobs expected to be lost.
