The Labour Court recommended that Aramark Food Services pay two workers made redundant at its NUIG contract an ex-gratia payment of two weeks’ pay per service year, in addition to their redundancy terms. The recommendation was signed on 11 July 2012. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued the redundancies were compulsory and that enhanced payments were customary in contract catering. Aramark said it could not afford extra payments and normally paid statutory redundancy only. The Court found the redundancies were compulsory and that available alternative jobs were not equivalent to the roles lost.
