The Labour Court recommended that Logstrup (IRL) Ltd offer workers losing their jobs after production moved to its parent company in Denmark an ex-gratia payment of 2.5 weeks’ pay per service year, in addition to statutory entitlements. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Unite were asked to accept the offer. The recommendation was signed on 11 July 2012. The unions argued the workers had given many years of service, their work was moving abroad and enhanced redundancy was customary in manufacturing. Logstrup said it did not pay enhanced redundancy in any country and that granting the claim could put other jobs at risk. The Court said enhanced redundancy was well established in Ireland and saw no reasonable basis to take a different position.
