Labour Court recommends re-employment panel for redundant Special Needs Assistants

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Labour Court recommended a re-employment panel for Special Needs Assistants whose jobs are made redundant, with suitable vacancies offered in seniority order. The dispute involved IVEA-NABSE-ACCS-JMB-CPSMA, the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The Court said Special Needs Assistants were outside the Public Service Agreement's redeployment commitment but had a sustainable case for greater job security. Those displaced could choose a redundancy payment instead of joining the panel, and those remaining on it for a full school year without placement could also opt for payment. The recommendation was signed on 25 June 2012.
