The Labour Court recommended that Dunnes Stores rescind an unnamed worker’s written warning over till discrepancies and review its disciplinary procedures. The recommendation was signed on 3 April 2012. The Court found that the worker had not received sufficient notice that meetings were disciplinary, a proper opportunity to be accompanied, or enough detail about the allegations to respond. It also found the appeal process unfair: the appeals officer was subordinate to the original decision-maker, and the worker did not know there would be no oral hearing or receive the company’s evidence for comment. Dunnes Stores management did not attend the hearing.
