The Labour Court recommended that a technician at the Central Bank & Financial Services Authority of Ireland choose between attending required overseas training and moving to a maintenance electrician role with the 7% pay differential phased out. The recommendation was signed on 27 February 2012. The worker said he could not leave his three children for a three-week course and had proposed alternatives. The Bank said the training was an operational and health-and-safety requirement for technicians, and that it had explored ways to accommodate him. The Court accepted the training requirement and recommended that he tell management his choice in writing within two weeks. If he chose training, the parties were to discuss arrangements; if he chose the electrician role, the differential was to be reduced incrementally through 31 December 2012.
