The Labour Court recommended that Connacht Gold Co-Op Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resume early negotiations over a deferred pay claim once an independent assessment of the co-operative’s finances is available. The recommendation was signed on 23 February 2012. The dispute concerned wage increases under the Towards 2016 Transitional Pay Agreement. The union said the parties had agreed to defer the increases for nine months and that management later withdrew from the arrangement. Connacht Gold said it could not sustain the cost of the increases given its financial position and the economic climate.
