The Labour Court recommended a pilot extended working day and changes to radiographers’ pay in a collective dispute between HSE - Cers and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 9 January 2012. The HSE proposed an 8am to 8pm working day and changes to terms and conditions, saying these would support service delivery. The union argued that the proposals conflicted with existing agreements, particularly on-call pay and allowances. The Court recommended that the extended day begin on a pilot basis from 1 February, with premium payments for specified hours and revised rates for out-of-hours work. Radiographers working fewer than 35 hours a week could keep those hours on a personal-to-holder basis until promotion. The Court also recommended retaining the €1,800 allowance for staff already receiving it and paying overtime for roster gaps. The pilot was to be reviewed after four months.
