The Labour Court recommended changes to Wexford Creamery’s redundancy package and selection process in its dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 9 January 2012. The dispute concerned plans to make 23 or 24 employees redundant. The union sought at least six weeks’ pay per year of service without a cap, voluntary redundancies first and then last-in, last-out selection. Wexford Creamery’s offer was 3.4 weeks’ pay per year, capped at 1.75 years, plus statutory entitlements. The company said its offer reflected its financial and competitive position. The Court recommended first-in, last-out selection section by section, subject to retaining key skills. It also recommended a cap of 130 weeks’ pay and that the company reinstate its original offer of four weeks’ pay per year of service plus statutory entitlements.
