Labour Court rejects union claim for fixed-rate bonus at Grant Engineering

In 2011, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for continued fixed-rate summer and Christmas bonuses at Grant Engineering (Ireland) Limited. The recommendation was signed on 28 October. The union sought outstanding payments and the bonuses’ reinstatement, saying their discontinuation was not part of the 2010 agreement. Grant Engineering said the annual-leave formula included the historical bonus and that it would make up any shortfall. The Court found the company’s position on when the fixed-rate bonus would continue had been clear when the parties made the 2010 agreement. It also did not recommend reopening a deferred issue about incorporating the bonus into basic pay.
