The Labour Court recommended that Roadstone Wood Limited (Bunratty Site) take greater care to distribute work evenly between hired haulage drivers and directly employed drivers, and consult regularly with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 17 October 2011. The union said work that should go to three direct drivers was being given first to contract drivers, reducing the direct drivers’ earnings. The company said a 20-year rota distributed work fairly. The Court found the agreement’s hired-haulage clause relevant and noted the long-standing practice of using hired drivers. It recommended greater care in work allocation and regular consultation with the union.
